Ceramics & Industry
Where Ceramics Meets Industry.
Ceramics technology, production, common facility services and industry support — all under one roof at Shahdara, Lahore.

Understanding Ceramics
Ceramics is a multidisciplinary field involving the science, technology and craftsmanship of transforming inorganic raw materials into useful and decorative products through controlled processing and firing. Students learn the principles behind ceramic materials and their transformation into finished products.
Raw Materials
Ceramic production begins with the careful selection and preparation of suitable raw materials.
Body Preparation
Raw materials are processed, proportioned, mixed and prepared to achieve the required characteristics of the ceramic body.
Forming & Shaping
The prepared ceramic body is shaped into the desired product using appropriate forming techniques.
Casting
Liquid ceramic material or slip can be introduced into moulds to create products of specific shapes and designs.
Drying
The shaped products are carefully dried to remove moisture and prepare them for subsequent processing.
Glazing
A glaze is applied to provide the desired surface characteristics, appearance, colour and finish.
Decoration
Products may be decorated using appropriate ceramic decoration techniques.
Firing
The dried and prepared products are fired in a kiln under controlled conditions. Firing transforms the prepared material into a durable ceramic product.
Quality Evaluation
Finished products are examined for appearance, dimensions, surface quality, defects and other relevant characteristics.
Finished Product
After successful processing and quality evaluation, the finished ceramic products are ready for display, use or further commercial application.
Production Demonstration Center
From Raw Material to Finished Product
One of the major distinguishing features of our institution is the Production Demonstration Center. It provides an environment where ceramic products can be developed through the complete production cycle — from raw material preparation to finished products.
It provides students with valuable practical exposure and an experience that closely reflects real production and workplace environments.
The center also supports the development of traditional and decorative ceramic products, including Blue Pottery.

Ceramics Tableware
From clay to table — our production facilities provide practical exposure to the development of functional ceramic tableware and related products.
Tea Sets
Cups, saucers, teapots and related tableware developed through ceramic forming, glazing, decoration and firing.
Dinner Sets
Functional tableware designed for everyday and institutional use.
Jars
Ceramic jars developed through suitable forming and finishing techniques.
Vases
Decorative ceramic products combining technical production with artistic design.
Tiles
Small ceramic tiles providing students with experience in forming, surface treatment, glazing and firing.
Decorative Products
A range of artistic and functional ceramic products developed through traditional and modern techniques.
Blue Pottery
Preserving a Traditional Craft
Blue Pottery represents an important connection between Pakistan’s artistic heritage and ceramic craftsmanship.
Our Production Demonstration Center supports the development of traditional and decorative Blue Pottery products while providing students with exposure to the techniques, materials, decoration and firing processes associated with ceramic craft.
A practical link between:
- Traditional Craftsmanship
- Technical Education
- Production
- Commercial Market

Display Centre
From Workshop to Display
The Display Centre provides an opportunity to showcase ceramic products developed through the institution’s production and training facilities — tableware, Blue Pottery and decorative ceramics, alongside student projects and experimental ceramic work.
It demonstrates the final stage of the production journey and provides visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the combination of technical skill, craftsmanship and creativity.

Common Facility Services
Supporting the Wider Ceramics & Art Community
The institution provides Common Facility Services to artists, students, educational institutions and other stakeholders.
Through these services, the institution extends its expertise and facilities beyond its own students and contributes to the wider art, design, ceramics and technical education community.
These facilities have supported students and artists associated with:
- National College of Arts
- University of the Punjab
- University of Home Economics
Services include:
- Processed Clay

Advisory & Industrial Support
Connecting Education with Industry
Our specialized technical expertise and facilities enable the institution to provide technical guidance and advisory support to local glass and ceramics industries and other stakeholders.
Our connection with industry helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world production requirements. Education + Production + Industry — this integrated approach enables students to understand how technical knowledge is applied in actual industrial environments.
Support may include guidance related to:
- Ceramic Materials
- Processing
- Production
- Ceramics Technology
- Technical Problems
- Product Development
- Practical Manufacturing Processes

Industry Linkages
Technical education must remain connected to industry. The institution promotes interaction between students, technical experts, entrepreneurs and industrial organizations through:
- Industrial Visits
- Internships
- Technical Training
- Advisory Services
- Industry Interaction
- Production Experience
- Career Guidance
These activities help students understand workplace expectations and the practical application of technical knowledge.
